James Stevenson
I haven't found anything on James other than what's listed in the Bible. But it's clear his grave at Pleasant Presbyterian Church is not marked. There are microfilms of that church's records that might have bearing. Hanover College had them, although it shipped all its original paper records on local churches to Union Theological Seminary in Philadelphia a few years ago. I made notes when I viewed them 15 or more years ago. I just don't remember seeing the name James--but i wasn't looking for it.
I always thought that fact that Robert and Jannet Wallace Stevenson, and James being members at Pleasant, rather than Caledonia, was because Pleasant was on the way between their house and Caledonia. But it may have been because Pleasant was a member of the Presbyterian Church USA while Caledonia was an Associate Reformed Church, or as its opening page said, Covenanters, which means that originally they would have been viewed as against the established church. Further back, they would have been viewed as anti-English.
I am descended from Robert and Janet via their son George. Their farm, settled in 1828, passed to George than to his son, William H. Stevenson, my great-grandfather, and finally to his son, Robert Dale Stevenson, my grandmother's brother. The farm was sold after Dale's death in 2001 and passed from the family.
Can you provide a list of children for James? I have a lot of thoughts on Robert and James' ancestry
