"EX-COMMISSIONER WALTER S. LOCK DIES IN THIS CITY LAST FRIDAY"

Member of Well Known Family And Formerly Prominent in Democratic Politics.


    Walter Scott Lock died at his home in this city, Friday, Jan 19, aged 75 years 11 months.
    His death was due to asthma from which he suffered for two years past. He bore his affliction with much patience and Christian fortitude.
    He was the son of Rev. Nicholas and Nancy Lock, and was born in Jefferson County, Ind., near Indian Kentuck, Feb 14, 1837.
    His marriage to Miss Lucinda Leap occurred on April 3, 1856, and to this union were born five sons, namely, Irvin, Samuel, George, Albert, and Eugene. Albert having died in infancy.
    Mr. Lock united with the Long Run Baptist church under the pastorate of Rev. J.D. Griffith in 1855, and was a consistent member for twenty years. He later joined the U.B. church at Zion Chapel and lived a Christian life until death came. He was tenderly cared for by his devoted wife and family and nothing was spared which would alleviate his suffering.
    Mr. Lock was a member of the 165th (actually the 156th) Infantry Ind. Volunteers. (The 156th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry was organized at Indianapolis, Ind., April 12, 1865. Left the State for Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, April 27. Performed guard and patrol duty at various points in the Shenandoah Valley until August 1865. The members were mustered out August 4, 1865.     He served in the capacity of County Commissioner in 1900-1901 and numbered many friends in the county.
    Beside the wife and four sons he leaves nine grandchildren, one brother of Columbus, Ind. and Roland Dunn, whom he raised.
    The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Baptist church, Rev. E.W. Reinhart officiating. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery.
