I have no written history on the Dufours. We do know that they stayed in the Vaud Canton in Switzerland as far back as 1597. The birth record says, "Adam son of Jacques Dufour of Sales." Sales is a village in the Vaud Canton.

The record concering the early Siebenthal family has been translated from the "TURM BUCH" and "CHOR GERIGHTS MANUELE" which reside in the archives of Saanen, Bern Switzerland. About fifty prominent families of Saanenland have been written about in the book, Landshaft Saanen.

Herzog (Duke) Berchtold IV allocated the Simmental Valley to three Septem (Seven) Barons in 1175. All of the Siebenthals that I know of in the United States come from Johannes de Septem (Seven) Vallibus (Valley). Johannes migrated from the Ober Simmental Valley to Gruben Bei Gstaad where he gave the Gstaad Chapel 100 pounds on July 1, 1511. Johannes was now living in a German speaking area and changed his name to Johannes Von Siebenthal.

The Siebenthal who is my ancestor moved to the Canton of Vaud, a French speaking Canton and married Susanne Ester Chapallay, a French speaking Swiss woman. After two generations the Siebenthals changed their name once again to Jean de Siebenthal. The Von and De comes from Nobility, not of or from as commonly understood by these words.

A copy of the Siebenthal Coat of Arms hangs in the History Museum in Bern, Bern Switzerland.
