DECLARATION OF INTENTION
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,
STATE OF INDIANA, JEFFERSON COUNTY} SS.
Personally appeared before me the undersigned Clerk of the CIRCUIT COURT within and for the County of Jefferson, aforesaid, John Clements, an alien --- a native of County Tyrone Ireland -- aged about 27 years, bearing allegiance to the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland -- who emigrated from Belfast on the 12. day of June - A.D., 1845 and arrived at Buffalo on the 10. day of May - A.D., 1849 and who intends to reside within the jurisdiction and under the Government of the UNITED STATES, to-wit:-- in Jefferson County, Indiana -- And he makes report of himself for Naturalization, and declares on oath, that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States of America, and to forever renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every Foreign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty whatsoever; and particularly to Victoria Queen of Great Britain and Ireland As Whom he is now a subject

FINAL NATURALIZATION PAPER.
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
The State of Indiana, Jefferson County, Sci.
In the Jefferson Circuit Court, October Term, 1888 to-wit: on the 30th day of October 1888
Be it Remembered, That, on this day personally appeared in open, court, John Clements An Alien, aged about 62 years. And, it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that the said John Clements has resided within the United States the length of time required by law, and has taken the necessary preparatory steps to become a Citizen of the United States, and is of good moral character, and is well disposed towards the Government of the United States, and the good order and happiness of the same:
Thereupon, the said John Clements took an oath to support the Constitution of the United States, and that he did forever and entirely abjure and renounce all allegiance and fidelity to every Foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever; and particularly to the Queen of Great Britain and its dependencies, of whom he was late a subject.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of said Court, at Madison this 30th day of October A.D. 1888

Andrew Todd, left Belfast,Co. Antrim, N. Ireland in April 1810 and arrived in Charleston, SC on Dec. 3,1810. My copy of his Declaration of Intent was only dated August 1840 at the top of the page but the Swearing In was signed on the Sept. 28, 1840.
