College Hill Baptist. The earliest report of this church comes on Jan. 12, 1850, when the Anti-Slavery Regular Baptist Education Society met at the Anti-Slavery Baptist Church at College Hill. The officers were H.H. Hicklin chairman, J.C. Thompson, sec. pro tem. Also attending were James Hays, Isaiah Walton, and John C. Thompson. (Mortgage Book 1849/50 p. 369) On June 8, (p. 622) the society elected J.H. Tibbetts, Isaiah Walton, and Lemuel Record, as trustuess for one year, with J.C. Thompson as clerk. An unusual move occurred on Nov. 12, 1855. The trustees of the church, Lemuel Record and John H. Tibbetts, approved selling the house of worship to James Nelson for $150, with proceeds to be used in furnishing the college chapel, which was to be used for a house of worship. The college trustees were Thomas Cravens, Samuel Tibbets Sr, Samuel Tibbetts, Record, John H. Tibbetts, and J.C. Tibbetts. (Mortgage Book 9 p. 175) It was not a member of the Madison
Baptist Association in 1860 (the 1861 minutes were not available to me) but was in 1862. The 1862 minutes report the church had a deep interest in the Eleutherian college, along with a Sabbath school and Bible Class. The church vanishes from the association records in 1879, which report Sept. 10, 1879, that College Hill sent no report or messenger to the meeting.

McKinley Littrell
My grandfather's half brother is buried at College Hill. He has a stone, but is not listed on the DAR index. His name was McKinley Littrell and he died during his service in either the Spanish American War or WWI... He is buried, if I remember correctly, next to his parents - James and Hannah Littrell.
